Volunteers Learn Portuguese in Brazil

Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Portuguese language and fascinating Brazilian culture on one of our intensive Portuguese language classes in Brazil.

Brazil Teaching Workshop

With 15 hours of tuition per week and accommodation with a local Brazilian family, you'll learn quickly and can practice what you've learned with your hosts each day. Lessons are with a qualified language teacher and are tailored to your personal level.

Whether you are a complete beginner or have been learning Portuguese for many years, being immersed in the language every day will help your skills progress quickly. After your lessons you will, of course, have plenty of time to complete your homework and explore the city and the State of Rio de Janeiro with other volunteers.

Alternatively, you can undertake a short 14-hour or 30-hour language course in Portuguese. These courses are tailored to your needs and run alongside your volunteer project. If you are planning on volunteering abroad for three months or more, you could also complete a 60-hour course alongside your placement. While studying on the Portuguese Language Project and living in Brazil, you will probably become a foreign friend for many local people and have a good opportunity to influence the way they see the world. Integrating into the local Brazilian community is also much easier when you have taken the time to learn their national language.

If you are not confident in starting a volunteer project before improving your Portuguese, a two week or month long intensive language course is a good and worthwhile plan. Once you have completed two weeks or a months worth of study, you could go on to spend some time on another project in Brazil and put your new language skills to good use on a Teaching or Care project.
