Projects Abroad in Fiji: Arrival Procedure in Nadi

Center of Nadi

Nadi Airport is a 20-minute drive from the centre of town. Although most flights arrive very early in the morning, you’ll always be met by one of our staff in Fiji holding an A4 Projects Abroad sign. You will then be taken to your host family where you’ll have plenty of time to settle in.

Induction and Orientation

Depending on what time your flight gets in, you’ll either have your induction in the afternoon of your arrival or the following day. You’ll be picked up from your host family and taken for an orientation around Nadi. You’ll be shown how to reach our office by bus and there you will be introduced to the other staff. You will be shown the handbook and any necessary safety and security measures will be explained.

You will then be shown around town including all the different landmarks and amenities such as the post office, banks, and bureaux de change. You’ll also be shown how to buy a local SIM card or cell phone. You’ll get the opportunity to be introduced to the other volunteers who will be very eager to meet you!

Projects Abroad Fiji

After the tour we’ll take you back to your new home to rest and properly settle in. The next morning you’ll be picked up from your host family and shown how to get to your placement. Most placements are conveniently located within walking distance from your host family, but if it’s too far to walk you may need to take a bus. If this is the case, our staff will make sure that you are happy with this journey. When you arrive at your placement, you will be introduced to the supervisor who will explain your role and what you will be doing during your time in Fiji.

Our host families are Native Fijian or Indian- Fijian and all speak very good English. They are all located within a 20-minute bus ride from the centre of Nadi.

The Projects Abroad office is located right in the centre of Nadi and is easily accessible by bus; some host families are within walking distance of the office, as well. The office has two rooms with an open area and small kitchen at the back for volunteers to spend time on the internet or use the teaching and care resources we have available.
