Computers Landing in Cape Coast, Ghana!

Donated computers

When you were a child, did you dream of super machines, huge space ships and other worlds? With increasing access to computers you can access these worlds just by pressing an ‘enter’ key. This world is now a reality and many children from Cape Coast in Ghana will have easier access to it.

This warm and friendly town is celebrating a generous computer donation to Saint Monica’s Girls School. Rachel Regan from Ireland volunteered with Projects Abroad for five months in Cape Coast from May to October 2009. During her placement, she was teaching the kids about the use of computers, its benefits and the hardware of a PC. Due to the lack of an actual computer she had to draw a computer on the blackboard to explain the parts.

Whilst in Ghana, she managed to arrange a donation from a computer company from South Africa. 25 computers finally arrived in Cape Coast on the 9th of November! This January will see the first students learning proper computing.

This donation is a great contribution to the community and an excellent chance for the kids to get a better education and understanding of the digital world. In addition to Rachel’s donation, Gary Warren from Australia who is also volunteering with Projects Abroad from November 2009 to February 2010 arranged the donation of the electricity set-up for the 25 new computers.

The community of Cape Coast says a big thank you to Rachel and Gary for such an incredible donation!
