Global Gap Year: Stage 4 Thailand Conservation
Thailand is a great introduction to South East Asia. It's a beautiful country where there is so much to see, including pristine beaches, exotic food and golden temples.
Anyone doing international volunteer work in Thailand will have the chance to get beneath the country that tourists see and discover the incredibly friendly people and unique culture that define this beautiful place.

Unlike much of Asia, Thailand was never colonized. Consequently, Thai culture and deeply felt Buddhism are influential throughout the country; even amid the urban bustle and with the push of tourism. Modern Thailand juxtaposes the influence of the West with its many ancient beliefs and is a fascinating place to experience while you are volunteering abroad.
Projects Abroad Thailand is based in Ao Nang near Krabi, a one hour flight south of Bangkok on the Andaman Sea coast and where our Diving and Marine Conservation project is located.
All Global Gap participants will finish their programs as a volunteer on our Diving and Marine Conservation project for four weeks. All volunteers will spend their first week becoming Open Water Diver certified so they can fully participate in the underwater conservation work. In addition to analyzing reef damage and fish populations, volunteers will be helping clear the reefs of trash on salvage dives. Out of the water, volunteers will undertake beach clean ups, mangrove reforestation projects and outreach work with local schools.
Volunteers who are already qualified Open Water Divers can begin conservation work immediately without completing the course, or may take an advanced diving course instead. There are also Teaching and Care work options for volunteers who would like to do volunteer work other than the diving project.
