In recent years, more and more Canadians have come to realize the value of using their skills and time to volunteer abroad. As a leading international volunteer organization, Projects Abroad is committed to facilitating worthwhile programs for volunteers from around the world, including Canada, for the purpose of helping others.

Canadian volunteers can choose from hundreds of different volunteer and intern abroad projects in destinations across the globe. We offer placements in various fields, from working with children in care facilities, to shadowing doctors in hospitals and clinics. With so many choices available, each volunteer is sure to find a project suited to their interests and goals. You are free to choose your own start and end dates as projects run year-round and you can travel from as little as one week.

What are the benefits of volunteering abroad for Canadians?

There are many benefits to volunteering in developing countries. Here are just a few:

  • Give disadvantaged communities and individuals the support they need
  • Learn about another culture through experience and immersion, and not through the Internet, TV, or a book
  • Expand your horizons and personal growth by stepping out of your comfort zone
  • Gain new skills to enhance your resume and grow professionally
  • Experience travel without being a tourist
  • Become part of a global network of like-minded people

Volunteer Abroad Canada: Opportunities for all ages and skill levels

Our Standard Volunteer Abroad and Intern Abroad Projects are open to anyone aged 16 and older. The majority of our projects have no requirements and all we ask is that you are fully committed to making a difference in the community where you work. If you have qualifications and special skills, then we will make sure that they are used to make as significant an impact as possible, especially if you choose to volunteer on our Projects for Professionals.

Projects Abroad also organizes specialized group trips for high school students, gap year students, university students, volunteers over the age of 50, and those looking to travel over winter break.

In addition, we can arrange placements for families who want to volunteer abroad together.
