Working as A Veterinary Medical Intern in Latin America & the Caribbean

Volunteer animal healthcare internships

As a veterinary medical intern in Latin America and the Caribbean, you will gain valuable and practical experience at whichever project you choose, whether you are helping rehabilitate wild animals at a care and rescue center in Guadalajara, Mexico, or shadowing local vets at a clinic in Córdoba, Argentina. As an intern, you will be involved in many areas, such as feeding animals, and cleaning and repairing enclosures. Interns also have the opportunity to assist the specialists in retraining the animals to live independently, helping them to improve skills they may have lost, or never fully developed, while in captivity. During your internship, punctuality and professionalism are highly expected. Interns are usually required to work an average of 30 hours per week. While knowledge of Spanish is not necessary, most interns will be expected to be proficient in English.

Whatever your level of veterinary experience, your input in Mexico will be greatly encouraged and appreciated. Take the opportunity to make your own recommendations, or explain practices back home. Your adaptability and willingness to learn will be appreciated by your colleagues, enabling you to truly engage yourself as an active member of the team.
