Traveling to Argentina as a volunteer teacher with Projects Abroad is an ideal way for you to get involved and help improve the language skills of Argentinean teenagers and adults. You can gain meaningful work experience teaching abroad and no TEFL certificate is needed. Whether you want to volunteer abroad by teaching during your gap year, a career break, or during an extended vacation, you will have a role to play on one of our volunteer teaching projects in Argentina.
Argentina is the eighth largest country in the world and the second largest country in South America. With its well-educated populace, culture, and rich resources, this country has much to offer those who decide to volunteer abroad in Argentina. As the language of business and commerce, it is important for English to be taught across the globe, and schools in Argentina are eager for students to learn English.
Our teaching placements are situated in high schools and language institutes in the city of Cordoba, which is the second largest city in Argentina after Buenos Aires. You can also work at schools situated in surrounding areas, like Río Ceballos and La Calera.
You do not need any previous teaching experience or qualifications before joining a Teaching project in Argentina but you will need to take time to prepare and structure lessons. Being prepared will help to give you confidence and ensure that you and your students get the most out your time in Argentina.
Volunteering as a Teacher in Argentina
Many of the schools in Argentina have local teachers who are good at making sure that the students write and read well, but do not always have the time or ability to practice the speaking or listening skills that they require to fully develop their English abilities. Your skills are vital to encourage the children to practice and improve their conversational English and give them the extra help and attention they need. Local staff will also be eager for you to engage the students by teaching extra-curricular activities such as drama and sports.
English is the global language and children and adults are eager to learn it, so you will find working at schools and language institutes in Argentina to be enjoyable and rewarding. Through the use of authentic materials, games, and songs you can engage the students and make them eager to learn. If you are fluent in Italian, you also have the option of teaching Italian full-time at your placement.
We have plenty of suggestions for games and activities that will help to stimulate the students' minds and sustain their enthusiasm, and always welcome new ideas. Whatever skills and talents you have, volunteering abroad in Argentina will give you the opportunity to put them to good use. Be imaginative with your teaching to make learning fun and enjoyable for the students and yourself.
You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Argentina Teaching Management Plan.
Volunteering at a Teaching Placement in Argentina with Projects Abroad
Schools in Argentina have their main vacation period from the start of December to the end of February, with a shorter break in July. During these times volunteers can teach informal lessons at care centres or join our summer school program.
Throughout your placement, you will be located near other volunteers and will live with a local host family. This is a great way to become a part of the local community and will give you an insight into Argentinean life.
The impact you have on the lives of your students will be obvious and long lasting, but you will also be part of a much wider international volunteer network, which is making a positive contribution to the communities in which we work.
You can join the Teaching Project in Argentina for less than a month if you don't have time to join us for a month or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
