The Building in India High School Special is ideal for teenagers who want to contribute to disadvantaged communities abroad and see the physical results of their efforts directly. You do not need to have any construction experience to volunteer on this project.
In India, you will work alongside a local NGO in a village just outside of Jaipur. You will play a vital role in the community by helping to construct desperately needed infrastructure such as toilet blocks or a community centre, using traditional building methods. You will find yourself getting involved in a variety of activities including digging foundations, mixing and pouring cement, building a roof, or putting the finishing coat of paint on the completed building. You will also have the chance to take part in community activities in the afternoon.
During your time abroad, you will live with a local host family. They will teach you all about Indian culture and local traditions.
Some evenings are set aside for cultural or leisure activities organized by our local staff. On the weekend you will get to experience more of India’s culture by visiting some of the most interesting spots in Northern India including the majestic Taj Mahal in Agra and the captivating pink city of Jaipur.
