Projects Abroad’s Medicine project in India is an eye-opening experience for anyone who is interested in studying medicine. It offers you a unique insight into medical practices in the developing world and gives you the chance to observe qualified doctors and nurses at work.
Your medical placement will be based in Jaipur. Throughout the course of the trip, you'll spend time in a variety of medical institutions. Half of your time will be spent shadowing the doctors of a busy multi-specialty hospital. The doctors are eager to show you all they can and share their knowledge. Do not hesitate to be proactive, asking them questions and taking notes.
In addition to the hospital time, you will also have the chance to visit a leprosarium as well as have the opportunity to attend a medical outreach project and help provide healthcare services or knowledge to local communities.
On arrival you will be briefed on India's medical system and Indian culture. Tips and advice will be given by your coordinators to make sure that you get the most out of the experience.
Accommodation on this project is either staying in a hotel or guesthouse.
On the weekend and after work you you will get to experience more of the Indian culture by visiting some of the most interesting spots in Northern India, such as the majestic palaces and the captivating pink city of Jaipur. There will also be time for other leisure activities and shopping.
For those who want to do a longer stay, you can sign up for a 4-week program on select dates. Staying for 4 weeks will allow you to double the amount of experience and gain a deeper understanding of medicine and India. Those joining us on the four week program will also get extra visits and activities arranged during the other weekends.
