As a Projects Abroad IT volunteer in India, you can use your knowledge of computers to help children and adults develop the skills they need to succeed in school and work. The IT sector in India has grown to such an extent that schools and colleges have introduced IT education in their curriculum. However, a knowledge gap in basic to advanced IT related skills remains a problem in India and volunteers are needed to help students further their skills.
As an IT volunteer, you will teach basic computer programs like Word and Excel. By helping people become computer literate, their chances of finding better jobs increases and their quality of life improves. It would be a great help if you are also able to develop databases and assist with any maintenance work.
Teaching IT in India is suited to volunteers of all abilities. Although you require IT knowledge, you do not need any IT qualifications to join this placement and any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Depending on your IT background, you can decide to teach school children or adults.
Volunteer Teaching IT Abroad in India with Projects Abroad
Volunteers on the IT project have the option to teach IT related skills to students from various schools. You will teach them a variety of computer skills, from switching a computer on and off to explaining programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You will also coach them on how to use the internet for research and communication.
We also encourage volunteers to make use of educational computer games for the students. Students who complete their IT course will receive a certificate.
Your working hours at the schools will be from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
For volunteers with advanced IT knowledge, you have the option to teach progressive IT skills to students at nursing colleges, industrial technical institutes, and in various other colleges around Jaipur. This will help students with their studies as well as provide better employment opportunities later on.
There will also be the chance for IT volunteers to help with NGO programs in rural areas. These NGOs run IT education centres and provide important computer education for children, youth, and women living in rural areas. Women require basic computer skills to manage their micro-credit programs and volunteers can make a difference in their lives.
You can join the IT project in India for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
