If you are eager to do something worthwhile over your winter break and travel to warmer climates, join Projects Abroad on the Care & Community Project in Jamaica. You do not need any previous experience in childcare or teaching to join, and we welcome volunteers of all ages and skill levels. All you need is enthusiasm and a commitment to helping the local community.
For one week, you will work alongside other volunteers with disadvantaged children in a school or care centre in Mandeville, Jamaica. You can help support local staff by organizing fun and creative games and activities and lending a hand with their general care if needed.
You will also have the chance to participate in Projects Abroad Jamaica’s yearly festive season initiative, Operation Krismus Smile. This is an annual event where our staff and volunteers reach out to local children and families in need and provide them with gifts and other treats during the holidays. You and your fellow volunteers will help choose, wrap, and distribute gifts, as well as plan and run gift-giving events and fun days. This is a highlight of the year for many local children and families, as well as our volunteers and staff!
During your week in Jamaica, you will live with a local host family, and get to experience full immersion in the Jamaican way of life, at a very social time of year.
The program has daily support from staff and you will always have something to do, with evening activities planned to make sure you get the most out of your time abroad. You can also take the opportunity to explore the natural and cultural beauty of Jamaica before or after your volunteer program.
