If you are young, passionate, and considering pursuing a career in Human Rights, then this program in Cape Town, South Africa, is for you. You will enjoy a variety of experiences, learning about the history and culture of Cape Town and the country as a whole. You will work alongside people who live in townships and gain a first-hand understanding of their daily lives and the hurdles related to poverty, crime, and racial barriers which must be overcome.

While visiting these areas, you will also have the opportunity to meet with some true local heroes who have struggled through their own problems and have reached out to help others. This might include providing safe houses for abused women and children, running early childhood development centres, or helping people to develop skills to earn an income.

High school students interning abroad with Projects Abroad in South Africa attend a meeting with a lawyer in Cape Town.

The individuals you meet will enable you to understand the extent of the continuing social problems and give you ideas of how these issues may be best remedied on the ground - the essence of Human Rights work! You will also meet with professionals working in various fields who will provide you with further insight into some of the challenges they face when trying to improve the level of access to human rights-related assistance.

Over the weekend you'll be taken enjoy the stunning scenery that Cape Town and the surrounding area has to offer, whether you view the city from the top of Table Mountain, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach, or explore some of the legendary Garden Route.
