Arrival airport and pickup in India
A member of Projects Abroad staff will be waiting for you the moment you arrive at Cochin International Airport in India. Seeing a friendly face there to welcome you and take you to your accommodation will immediately put you at ease.
You’ll be taken directly to the accommodations that you’ll be sharing with the other volunteers and interns. Our staff will make sure you’re settled in and give you more information about your induction. Depending on the day and time you arrive, this will either be the same day or in the morning after you’ve had a good night's sleep.

Visas requirements for your volunteer project or internship in India
One of the perks of volunteering with us is the visa guidance we provide. We have a dedicated visa team who have up-to-date information on visa requirements for all of our destinations around the world. You can get in touch with us if you have any visa questions, big or small, and we’ll talk you through the process. Once you apply, you’ll also get a link to your own MyProjectsAbroad webpage, which will include all the necessary visa information.
Your induction and orientation in India
Your induction will depend on what time of the day you arrive in Kochi. If you arrive early enough, it’ll take place after you’ve settled into your accommodation. Alternatively, it’ll take place on your first full day in India.
During your induction, our staff will show you around the local area so that you know where to find basic amenities like the supermarket, bank and post office. They’ll also show you how to navigate the public transport system if you’d like to explore during your free time. You’ll also receive an induction pack with safety tips, maps of the area and contact information which our staff will talk you through. Use this opportunity to ask questions and find out how we run our projects.
Your first day at your volunteer or internship placement in India
On your first day, our staff will accompany you to your project placement. They’ll show you how to get to and from your placement, and ensure you know what is expected of you. As an introduction, your supervisor will take you around so you can learn the ins and outs of how the placement is run. You’ll then spend the day getting a feel of the work and your responsibilities. You’ll officially start your project work on your second day.
Support, safety, and backup
Your safety and security is our prime concern. We have many procedures and systems to ensure you have the support you need to enjoy your trip with peace of mind. Our Projects Abroad staff are available 24-hours a day to help, and will be on-hand to make sure you settle in well at your accommodation and placement.
