Our Conservation Project in Mexico is located in Cuyutlan on the Pacific coast of Colima. Here, you will work at a turtle conservation centre (based close to a beautiful stretch of black sand beach), crocodile centre, and a large lagoon next to the turtle centre.

During your week abroad, you will participate in various activities aimed at protecting endangered turtle species, as well as crocodiles and birds. Working with turtles will be your main focus, and you will help count and collect eggs laid on the beach. Most of the eggs are collected during night-time patrols and are then buried in a corral at the centre to keep them safe from predators and poachers. If any eggs hatch while you are at the project, you can help release the hatchlings into the sea.

In addition to working with turtles, you will also get involved in our crocodile conservation work in the nearby town of Cofradia de Morelos, where you will contribute to a study of the wildlife in the local lagoon. This project is suitable for anyone interested in doing something adventurous and spending time outdoors for spring break. It is a great opportunity for Sciences and Environmental Studies majors to get out of the lab and into the field.

If you have time, you can do this project for a second week at the standard two-week trip price.
