In Bangladesh, an alarming number of children are living in poverty and their basic needs – such as food, shelter, and sanitation – are not being met. By volunteering with Projects Abroad on a Care Project, you will be able to help these children and give them the support they desperately need.

As a Care volunteer, you will be work at a care centre in Dhaka, the capital city. We work with a number of care centres located throughout Dhaka. These placements struggle to care for large numbers of children, and these centres are often understaffed and lack important resources. As a volunteer, you will be able to make a significant impact by using your time, energy, and skills to help care for the children.

You do not need previous experience to volunteer on a Care Project. We welcome volunteers of all ages and skill levels, whether you are a trained professional offering us the benefit of your experience, a student on a gap year, a professional on a career break, or simply looking to travel with purpose over a vacation.

Volunteering at a Care Centre in Bangladesh

At your Care placement, your role will be to provide the children with the best care possible. This will involve helping with day-to-day practical tasks, such as ensuring that the youngest children have been fed and are ready for the day, as well as organizing activities such as arts and crafts, games, and teaching basic literacy and numeracy.

With the older children, you could also teach different sports, which will help with their fitness and develop their teamwork skills. Any skills you have to offer are welcome and will be greatly appreciated.

You will be a welcome pair of helping hands for the local staff, who often struggle to give the children individual attention. There are several other areas where your help will be vital as well, such as assisting the staff with tasks like washing dishes and cleaning the centre. These tasks are vital to the daily running of the care centres.

Our local Projects Abroad staff will also provide extra help to Care volunteers. This could include buying some arts & crafts materials or arranging a day where all the volunteers help to renovate a play area at one of the centres.

The Care Project in Bangladesh is available for less than a month if you don't have time to join us for a month or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for shorter durations for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone participating for a longer period.
