In Morocco, we are partnered with several care facilities that help underprivileged children and children with special needs. Most of these facilities are understaffed and local staff are unable to spare much time outside of their usual duties to give kids the individual attention they need. As a volunteer at a care centre, kindergarten, or special needs centre, you can help provide the extra support that is needed.
Every volunteer has something to offer at the Care Project in Morocco, regardless of your abilities or level of experience. Whether you are on a gap year, career break, or looking for an opportunity to give back during a vacation or retirement, you can contribute to children’s educational and emotional development. All you need is enthusiasm and a commitment to your work!
Our Care placements are based in and around Rabat, an ancient but rapidly modernizing city. French and Arabic are the most common languages spoken and although you don’t need to speak either one to participate, we recommend learning some of the basics to communicate more effectively with local staff and the children. If you would like to brush up on existing skills or learn some basic phrases, you can join a French or Arabic Language Course before or during your Care Project.
Volunteering in Care Centres in Morocco
Most of our Care placements are in care centres that support disadvantaged children. Here, there are children who have lived on the streets or come from poverty-stricken homes. Some have never attended school. These centres are essential for the children, as it gives them a safe environment to learn and grow, away from the dangers of the streets.
As a volunteer at one of these care centres, you will have a weekly schedule and get involved with a range of activities, including arts & crafts, basic language lessons, sports, drama, educational games, music, dance, and more. Most of these activities will be geared toward improving Early Childhood Development.
Volunteering in Kindergartens in Morocco
As a Care volunteer at a kindergarten in Morocco, you will be a welcome pair of helping hands. Your role will be to give the children the extra attention that local staff are often too busy to give. You can contribute by assisting with day-to-day tasks, playing educational games, teaching basic English and numeracy lessons, and offering the children emotional support.
Volunteering in Special Needs Centres in Morocco
If you would like to help care for those with special needs, we offer placements in special needs centres. Here, you can contribute by offering much needed attention and support, and helping to improve their quality of life. You do need to be ready for a challenge if you choose to volunteer at a special needs placement. Many of the children have health or behavioral problems and require a great deal of attention and energy due to a range of disabilities.

The General Care Project in Morocco is available from 2 weeks if you do not have time to join us for 4 weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for shorter durations for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone participating for a longer period.
