If you are looking to do something different over the summer and improve your grasp of the French language, join us on the Care & Community with French High School Special in Togo. This program is specially designed for high school students and combines volunteer work in care centres and schools with French classes.
During your time in Togo, your days will be split between different placements. At the care centre and school, you and your group will arrange and run educational activities and games for the kids, as well as helping with the general day-to-day tasks. You will also get involved with some light renovation work, such as painting walls and murals, setting up a school library, and creating a vegetable garden.
Your French classes will take place several times a week. These classes are interactive and teaching will be adjusted to your level, whether you are learning the basics or improving the French you already have. Since you will be living with a host family, it will be easy to put your French into practice every day! Staying with a host family is also a wonderful way to familiarize yourself with the local culture.
When volunteer work and language classes are done for the day, there is plenty to see and do. Our staff organize social events and cultural activities in the evenings, include trips to Togoville and other local attractions, a pizza and movie evening, and dinner at a local restaurant.
On the weekend, the group will take a trip to Kpalimé, a mountain village surrounded by cocoa plantations. This will give you an opportunity to hike and explore, enjoy a picnic and swim at Womé waterfall, and discover the local arts and crafts markets.
