A Projects Abroad Medicine Internship in Romania is ideal for gaining a large amount of work experience in one of two placement options. You can choose between working at a county hospital emergency ward, or at a local family doctor practice. At both placement locations, Interns will work alongside skilled professional doctors and nurses, and offer a valuable helping hand in the workspace.
At the emergency ward, interns will get to experience an unpredictable and often high-paced work environment. You will be able to observe how professional doctors treat patients in emergency situations, and will be required to help where needed. Choosing to work at the family practice will allow interns to observe and help the clinic's doctors tend to patients who visit the practice. Interns are exposed to a variety of illnesses and treatment procedures. Please let us know which placement you are interested in when you apply.
All interns joining a medical project in Romania should have at least a year of related studies or training and be at least 18 years old.
Intern Abroad in Medicine in Romania with Projects Abroad
On arrival you will be introduced to your supervisor. You will work closely with them and have regular meetings about treatment options, recovery methods, and procedures. Your exact role will depend upon your specific skills and experience. As an intern your initial role will be to shadow the local staff. If you show enthusiasm and a good level of knowledge, you could have a more direct role. You could help arrange and evaluate the patient’s treatment program, implementing new ideas and methods to aid their recovery.
While interning in Romania, you will live with a local host family who will show you Romanian hospitality. You will be part of the Projects Abroad volunteer community and there will be plenty of other volunteers to explore the area with during your free time.
You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Romania Medicine & Healthcare Management Plan.
Medical internships in Romania are available for shorter periods than 4 weeks. While you will be able to gain valuable medical experience on a short-term trip, we recommend staying for a longer period to allow yourself more time to get to know the local medical system, see more of a variety of conditions and procedures, and develop stronger relationships with local medical staff.
If you have qualifications or experience in this field then we can make use of your skills volunteering abroad as a professional in Romania.
Interns seeking a different cultural experience have the option of participating on a more unique project for one week at the end of their project.
