Projects Abroad interns practice taking vital signs with each other at a hospital in Vietnam.

Projects Abroad offers Nursing internships in Vietnam to those looking to gain work experience and broaden their medical knowledge. Interns on this project will work in a city hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam. These internships offer a direct insight into how local procedures and patient support are carried out in Vietnam compared to back home.

Nursing interns work in a fast paced environment and have various departments to choose from, including paediatrics, orthopaedics, and urology. These departments will be well equipped and near the standard of departments in Canadian hospitals.

Interning Abroad as a Nurse in Vietnam with Projects Abroad

Projects Abroad medical interns attend a presentation at a hospital in Vietnam, Asia.

As a Nursing intern, your role is to help prepare surgical equipment for surgery, transfer patients to the operating rooms, and observe and care for patients after their surgeries.

Interns must have completed at least one year of medical related studies by the time they join this project.

Showing initiative and building a good relationship with your fellow nurses will enable you to get the most out of your internship. Local staff will also be eager to practice their English with you, so you should spend some of your time speaking with them and you could even teach some informal English lessons.

Your workday will normally be from 8am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. You will live with other Projects Abroad volunteers in shared accommodation. In your free time, you can explore Hanoi and discover your surroundings with other volunteers in the community.

There are a variety of Occupational Therapy placements in Vietnam as well. You could work at one of the children’s hospitals in Hanoi where occupational therapy help is needed. You could also work at Friendship Village, caring for the children and adults with disabilities due to the legacy of the Vietnam War.
