What you can expect

Based in Pacific Harbour, this program offers a hands-on way to make a tangible contribution to ocean conservation, and habitat restoration, while fully immersing yourself in Fijian culture.

Coastal conservation & snorkel ecology

• Guided reef snorkelling & marine workshops: Explore the shallow coral ecosystems of Beqa Lagoon, including Geckos Reef, on guided snorkelling trips, applying what you learn in workshops covering fish, sharks, turtles and coral health.
• Mangrove kindergarten & shoreline restoration: Get your hands dirty collecting mangrove seedlings, maintaining the kindergarten, and planting established mangroves along the coast to prevent erosion and create protected marine nurseries.
• Ocean plastics & coastal clean-ups: Take part in marine litter workshops and conduct coastline clean-ups, using the Clean Swell app to log ocean pollution data and support marine research.
• Marine biology & climate studies: Participate in interactive sessions on shark biology, marine ecology, and the impact of climate change on Pacific island ecosystems.

School outreach & community engagement

Make a lasting impact beyond your physical conservation work. Collaborate to design engaging educational materials and workshops on marine conservation topics, culminating in a visit to a local primary school to inspire students to become stewards of their ocean environment.

Cultural immersion & island exploration

Experience authentic island living and Fijian hospitality. Visit a traditional local village to meet the elders and chief, learn traditional crafts like basket weaving and tie-dye, and take part in a cultural dance lesson. You’ll also learn to prepare a traditional lovo feast slow-cooked in an underground oven, enjoy live music and fire dancing, and test your Fijian language skills.

Adventure & Weekend Trips

• Navua River tubing: Take a traditional longboat up the Navua River to visit a river valley village before floating downstream over gentle rapids surrounded by lush rainforests and waterfalls, a Fiji “must-do” adventure.
• Sigatoka Sand Dunes: Hike across the sweeping dunes of Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park, taking in coastal views and exploring ancient archaeological sites.
• Suva culture tour: Discover Fiji’s capital city, touring historic architecture, browsing craft markets, and visiting the Suva Museum.
• Coastal Highland hike: Hike through river valleys and rainforest trails to a hidden waterfall, taking in panoramic views of the coastline.
