NEW YORK – February 1, 2018Projects Abroad encourages all generations to make 2018 the year to travel, not only for personal gain, but to contribute to an important cause that will improve the lives of others. Projects Abroad offers a wide range of volunteer projects suited for all interests and ages, that facilitate cultural exploration, personal growth, and an opportunity to give back to those in need.

International travel has become a word synonymous with the millennial generation, but has been embraced across the generation spectrum. The desire to travel is fueled by a longing to break from the norm and to experience life in a different country, including its cultures, food, and popular sites. For many who travel, there is also a desire to give back to the place they visit. This can be through service work using skills and experience over a shorter period of time, but which has a long-term impact. For this reason, volunteering has become a means of travel that thousands across the world are opting for.

"People want to help. A lot of people do really see problems in the world, and they want to find a way to contribute, but they don't know how," says Projects Abroad Founder, Dr. Peter Slowe. "Where there are willing volunteers, or interested interns, you can do so much in a country. We can make great use of everybody, no matter what their talents, no matter what their abilities," he says.

Projects Abroad offers volunteer trips where participants travel to another country to contribute to an ongoing project to positively impact a specific area of need. These trips fall into different categories including child care, teaching, conservation, and building. Projects Abroad also offers international internships, where participants can gain practical experience working alongside local professionals in a field of study or expertise. These include internships in medicine, law, journalism, social work, international development, and veterinary medicine.

Travel trends* in recent years suggest that some of the countries where Projects Abroad has programs are considered popular destinations as well. Countries like Jamaica, China, Costa Rica, the Philippines, Peru, and Thailand, are those in the list of 30 destination countries volunteers can visit. This list presents great diversity in project options for prospective volunteers to join.

Whether it be as an individual, a group of friends, a school society, business colleagues, or as a family, choosing to volunteer abroad in 2018 will be both a personal investment and one in the lives of those in less fortunate positions. Projects Abroad encourages all to make 2018 the year to become a global citizen, and to give back through volunteering.
