Kindergarten children work on a creative activity with the help of volunteers

Volunteering in Fiji with Projects Abroad is a great way to experience meaningful travel over spring break and gain experience in the field of childcare. Although Fiji has an abundance of natural resources and a rapidly growing tourism industry, little of this income reaches poverty-stricken communities and increasing numbers of people are moving from villages to cities. Consequently, class sizes are large at kindergartens, which makes it difficult for local staff to give each child as much attention as they need.

As a volunteer in Fiji, you will be able to provide a helping hand by caring for children in kindergartens and improving the facilities. It is also the perfect opportunity to put any skills and interests you have to use, whether you make arts & crafts, help with basic literacy and numeracy, or teach games, songs, or sports. By showing initiative and enthusiasm, the options are endless, and any suggestions you have will be welcomed.

Social Work, Child Development, or Education majors will find this project particularly meaningful, though anyone else who is interested in helping to support children during their spring break is welcome. You do not need to have any background in childcare.

In Fiji, volunteers normally live with a host family that is either walking distance or a short bus ride from their project. At the end of the week, you can explore the islands and enjoy the warm tropical weather and beautiful beaches with clear turquoise water.
